چکیده
This article discusses two standards operating on principles of cognitive radio in television white space (TV WS) frequencies 802.22and 802.11af. The comparative analysis of these systems will be presented and the similarities as well as the differences among these two perspective standards will be discussed from the point of view of physical (PHY), medium access control (MAC) and cognitive layers.

Performance Improvement of IEEE 802.22 WRAN Physical Layer
The spectrum available for the wireless services is limited, the increased demand of wireless application has put a lot of limitations on the utilization of available radio spectrum. For the efficient spectrum utilization for wireless application IEEE 802.22 standard i.e. WRAN (Wireless Regional Area Network) is developed which is based on cognitive radio technique that senses the free availabl...

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing has been widely adopted in recent years due to its inherent spectral efficiency and robustness to impulsive noise and fading. For cognitive radio applications in particular, it can enable flexible and agile spectrum allocation, yet suffers from spectral leakage in the form of large side lobes, leading to inter-channel interference, unless mitigated car...
متن کاملModelling and Performance Evaluation of Physical Layer of Wireless Regional Area Networks (IEEE 802.22) over AWGN Channel
The IEEE 802.22 stands for Wireless Regional Area Network (WRAN). WRAN uses the white spaces & unused VHF & UHF TV Bands. Cognitive Radio (CR) is a key to develop such a wireless standard. It is based on Time division multiplexing and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access. WRAN is developed for rural areas where utilization can be very low. In this paper we provide a detail overview of ...

The key challenge of spectrum sensing is the Detection of weak signals or primary user in noise with a very small probability of miss detection, which requires better understanding of very low SNR regimes. Cognitive radio allows unlicensed users to access licensed frequency bands through dynamic spectrum access so as to reduce spectrum scarcity. The spectrum sensing problem has gained new aspec...
متن کاملOverview of 802.22 WRAN Standard and Research Challenges
Cognitive radio technology gets much attention of wireless network research environments as a new way to utilize the precious spectrum efficiently. IEEE 802.22, Wireless Regional Area Network, is the first international standard based on cognitive radio technology which intends to provide broadband access by utilizing unused TV channels, also known as TV white spaces. This standard provides PHY...
